Bluegrass Network Turns Up 800Gb/s Network in Kentucky Powered by Ciena

Bluegrass Network, a telecommunications provider serving central Kentucky, needed to expand its middle-mile presence and deliver far more bandwidth to meet growing demand from communities, businesses, and public institutions. To modernize its optical network, Bluegrass turned to Ciena and its coherent optical solutions, including WaveLogic 5 Extreme, the 6500 ROADM, Navigator Network Control Suite, and Ciena Services.

Ciena helped Bluegrass deploy a new 800Gb/s network with wavelengths on every route, increasing total optical capacity to 33.6Tb/s while reducing energy consumption and space requirements. The upgrade gives Bluegrass the flexibility to offer Ethernet services from 10Mb/s to 400GE, improving speed, reliability, and connectivity across rural Kentucky.
