Alaska Communications Teams Up with Ciena to Enhance Network

Alaska Communications, a leading provider of broadband and managed IT services, needed to enhance its network to deliver faster and more reliable internet and data connectivity to its enterprise and carrier customers in Alaska. To address this challenge, the company teamed up with Ciena to upgrade its infrastructure and services.

Ciena implemented its 6500 Packet Optical platform powered by WaveLogic 5 Extreme technology to increase capacity between core sites, including submarine links. They also deployed various Ciena routing and switching platforms for mobile backhaul and network aggregation. This solution, part of Ciena's GeoMesh Extreme, quadrupled network capacity from the Lower 48 states to Alaska, significantly improving the quality of experience for end users and enabling high-speed dedicated Ethernet services.
