The Wildlife Society Thrives With a Mentoring Program in Full Swing

The Wildlife Society, a 75‑year professional association for wildlife practitioners, needed a better way to connect experienced professionals with students and early‑career members across distance. Relying on annual conferences made it hard to retain training, sustain relationships, and provide ongoing access to expertise for more than 600 potential participants.

Using Chronus software (launched in May 2010), they implemented a structured six‑month online mentoring program with discussion forums and prompts to encourage regular communication and on‑demand resources. The program has kept members connected beyond conferences, often extending relationships past the formal term, energized experienced mentors eager to pass on their legacy, and given mentees steady real‑world feedback—helping cultivate the next generation of wildlife professionals.
