City of Boston Uses Fleet Data Management System to Boost Efficiency

The City of Boston Central Fleet Management division (Public Works) maintains about 1,100 vehicles across roughly 20 departments and several outside agencies. Facing fragmented processes, limited visibility into operating costs and utilization, and time‑consuming manual parts and inventory work, the division set out to standardize fleet operations and eliminate labor‑intensive tasks.

Boston implemented Chevin’s web‑based FleetWave to provide real‑time data, automated reporting and KPIs, and integrated parts management that links technicians, work orders and vehicles to inventory. The system automated stock control and replenishment, reduced carrying costs and manual workload, freed and reassigned three staff, cut warehouse and admin time, and improved accuracy in parts assignment and cost charging—delivering measurable efficiency gains.
