A Chef Case Study
General Motors’ IT group was managing a large Extract, Transform and Load (ETL) estate—over 100 servers—where provisioning, upgrades and maintenance were largely manual, slow and error-prone. That complexity led to lost productivity, frequent configuration drift and delayed time-to-market for data integration projects.
GM implemented an ETL Platform-as-a-Service using its Galileo private cloud and Chef-based automation to orchestrate request intake, infrastructure provisioning, software install, testing, patching and self‑healing compliance checks. The result: end-to-end platform delivery became 21× faster, provisioning productivity improved ~11×, maintenance and patch workflows gained 7× or more efficiency, and overall quality and reliability increased through automated testing and remediation.
