Automating compliance for finance

Hewlett Packard Enterprise’s Datacenter Care—Infrastructure Automation team helps customers turn infrastructure and compliance into code. Faced with a major Indian bank’s Banking Services division that ran about 500 HP‑UX servers and performed ~100 manual monthly compliance checks, the team struggled with a slow, error‑prone process: auditors and engineers had to log into each machine and run checks by hand, which took hours per server and made regulatory compliance difficult to manage.

HPE introduced Chef InSpec—human‑readable, CIS‑based profiles customized for the bank—to automate continuous testing and compliance auditing. A proof of concept showed scan times drop from roughly 500 minutes to 2 minutes per server, enabled quick comparisons between primary and DR sites, and let auditors retrieve results with a single click. InSpec’s readability and lightweight deployment sped adoption in dev and test, with plans to roll out to production.
