A Chef Case Study

Preview of the Verisk Case Study

Automating cloud migration and modernizing legacy applications

Verisk Analytics is a 6,500‑person data analytics company that manages 14 petabytes of proprietary data across insurance, natural resources, and financial services. Facing complex regulatory requirements and the need to modernize legacy applications, Verisk set out to migrate to the cloud, adopt DevOps practices, and automate operations to improve global availability, resiliency, and speed to market.

Verisk built a “HOV Lane” by combining AWS, Chef, and AWS OpsWorks for Chef Automate, giving developers push‑button deployments while infrastructure teams controlled reusable cookbooks. The approach enabled rapid, repeatable migrations — including bringing an acquired company’s entire stack into Verisk within 90 days — and reduced infrastructure complexity so Verisk can focus on delivering data‑driven innovation.
