A Check Point Software Case Study
Tokiwa University, a private Japanese institution that recently opened a Media and Information Technology Center to support campus-wide digital education, faced growing bandwidth demands and new risks from expanded Internet use and a campus wireless LAN. The school needed a consistent, evolving security infrastructure that would protect the perimeter and internal networks, allow free student access, and scale as the network grew.
Tokiwa implemented Check Point VPN‑1 Pro/FireWall‑1 at the perimeter, InterSpect as an internal security gateway for mobile PCs, and SmartDefense services for real‑time updates. The integrated deployment simplified management, enabled internal network segmentation and quarantine of infected devices, supported backbone upgrades to 2–8 Gbps and ongoing gigabit lab rollouts, and allowed the university to detect frequent attacks without sustaining damage.
