The European Space Agency Earth Observation Directorate Strengthens Security to Enable Mission-Critical Collaboration

The European Space Agency’s Earth Observation Directorate in Frascati protects complex international Earth observation missions and processes huge volumes of scientific data. Facing a hybrid, multi-location network with changing international partners, ESA needed to simplify perimeter security controls and deploy a firewall able to handle massive traffic at its Frankfurt internet access point.

ESA deployed Check Point 64000 scalable Next Generation Firewalls (operating at 100 Gbps) and is moving to the R80.10 Security Management Platform, gaining Anti‑Bot protections and a unified console. The solution centralizes perimeter management across devices and territories, screens traffic between security zones, supports the agency’s move to cloud solutions, and improves performance and security roadmap certainty through close engagement with Check Point.
