A Check Point Software Case Study
Swiss Re, a global reinsurance leader, needed to secure sensitive data on about 4,500 laptops used by traveling employees and home workers after Windows XP password protection proved inadequate. Under Project Enigma the company defined strict selection criteria—full sector-by-sector disk encryption, compatibility with existing servers and apps, automated deployment, pre-boot authentication and secure recovery—to protect operating system, system files and user data.
Swiss Re selected Check Point’s Pointsec for PC (later part of Check Point) using AES-256 full-disk encryption with pre-boot authentication and a challenge-response recovery process. The six-month, staged rollout (≈150 installs/week) ran transparently in the background and enabled single sign-on and centralized management from Zurich; three certified admins now maintain the global fleet (about one FTE equivalent). Independent penetration testing confirmed a high level of security, and Swiss Re plans to extend encryption to removable media.
