Skipton Building Society guarding and managing data integrity with one complete solution

Skipton Building Society, the UK’s seventh-largest building society with 79 branches, modernized its IT in 1998 by replacing dumb terminals with networked desktops and Internet access. That shift created exposure to viruses, hacking and data theft, so Data Security Manager Ron Logie sought an all‑in‑one solution to maintain data integrity, block malicious code and unlicensed software, and prevent unauthorized removable media.

After evaluating vendors, Skipton selected Pointsec Protector and deployed more than 2,000 licenses across head office and all branches as its primary defense alongside managed email scanning and a firewall. The solution runs transparently for users, protects against spyware and keylogging, and has blocked the majority of high‑profile virus attacks over six years (Skipton reports only three infections traced to unprotected clients), achieving a reported 99.9% resistance and ongoing work to add transparent encryption for removable media.
