Samsung Research America Secures Intellectual Property from Advanced Mobile Threats

Samsung Research America, Samsung Electronics’ Silicon Valley R&D arm, faced a growing risk to its valuable intellectual property as employees increasingly used smartphones and tablets for work. IT had to prevent compromised devices from accessing corporate networks or data, protect both iOS and Android devices, and integrate mobile threat visibility and enforcement with existing VMware AirWatch MDM and Splunk SIEM.

Samsung deployed Check Point SandBlast Mobile, integrated with AirWatch and Splunk, to provide multi-layer protection—sandboxing apps, behavioral heuristics, and network analysis with automated quarantines via MDM. The three-week rollout immediately detected multiple malware instances, ultimately finding that about 5% of enrolled devices were infected; the solution delivered full iOS/Android coverage, high user adoption, reclaimed a full-time IT resource, enabled safer BYOD, and restored confidence in mobile security.
