A Check Point Software Case Study
Matheson Tri-Gas, a U.S. manufacturer and distributor of industrial and specialty gases with more than 900 employees and about 60 locations, was rapidly expanding through acquisitions of small branch sites. Many of these offices had just a few PCs and no local IT staff, and the company wanted to move away from expensive, slow frame-relay links to always-on broadband while ensuring secure, easy-to-manage access to email, intranet and centralized applications.
Matheson deployed Check Point Safe@Office appliances (managed centrally) to secure broadband connections, enable VPNs, and support voice/data services. The sub-$600 appliances cut monthly connectivity costs dramatically (for example, $99/month cable vs. $600/month frame relay), sped site integration from 30–45 days to minutes, prevented Internet attacks with Stateful Inspection firewall protection, and allowed one person at corporate to manage all branch devices—delivering significant annual savings and faster rollout of new acquisitions.
