A Check Point Software Case Study
Marbella City Council, a popular Smart Tourist Destination on Spain’s Costa del Sol with 150,000 residents (and far more seasonal visitors), set out to modernize as a smart city while protecting citizen data and municipal systems. The digital transformation — new apps, connected devices and remote work — expanded the attack surface across 50 sites, 1,500 workstations, 700+ mobile devices and 3,700 employees, creating compliance and visibility challenges that had to be solved on a city council budget.
Working with Telefónica Tech, Marbella deployed Check Point’s Quantum security gateways and the Harmony portfolio (Endpoint, Mobile, Email & Collaboration and Harmony Connect SASE), all managed through a unified portal. The layered solution delivered simple deployment, strong protection against zero‑day threats, phishing and ransomware, and single‑pane visibility into networks, email and endpoints; it exposed poor user practices, improved compliance and staff awareness, and gave the IT team greater security and confidence while remaining cost‑effective.
