A Check Point Software Case Study
Friedrich-Ebert-Krankenhaus Neumünster (FEK) is a 2,500+‑employee regional hospital in Neumünster, Germany, with 11 specialized centers, 17 medical departments and about 24,000 inpatients and 55,000 outpatients annually. Faced with aging firewalls that couldn’t protect two data centers, hundreds of servers, 1,600 endpoints and growing IoT devices, the IT team needed to better safeguard patient and staff PII/PHI and adopt a Zero Trust security model.
FEK worked with SVA and deployed Check Point Quantum Security Gateways in parallel with legacy systems, using Application Control to enforce granular, role‑based access and cluster-based firewalling for internal and perimeter traffic. The new setup delivered immediate improvements in performance, stability and threat prevention (up to 9.5 Gbps throughput), giving the hospital stronger, more transparent defenses and a roadmap to replace remaining legacy systems and extend protections to email and collaboration.
