How Brisbane Catholic Education Supercharged Its Security Stack

Brisbane Catholic Education (BCE) is a Brisbane-based learning community of more than 140 schools serving 77,000 students and 12,000 staff. With a large, distributed hybrid infrastructure—including the southern hemisphere’s largest non‑government Office 365 tenancy—and critical systems hosted in its data center, BCE needed deeper visibility and stronger protection after high‑profile breaches elsewhere to better secure student data, traffic and file attachments.

BCE expanded its existing Check Point Quantum Security Gateway deployment by activating IPS, SandBlast zero‑day protection, URL filtering and other threat‑prevention blades, while using remote‑access VPN and a dedicated Technical Account Manager to fine‑tune policies. The result was automated, consolidated inspection and faster protection (including against Log4j), clearer web‑traffic visibility, and long‑term reliability—allowing BCE to scale defenses without adding staff or hardware.
