E-REDES Secures Critical Substation Environments with Next-Generation Security from Check Point

E-REDES, mainland Portugal’s energy distribution operator serving more than six million customers across roughly 500 substations, faced growing cybersecurity risk as digitalization reached its field-level infrastructure. The company needed full visibility into substation network traffic, clear segmentation between engineering and operational zones, and the ability to detect and prevent threats from affecting critical grid functions.

E-REDES deployed Check Point Rugged Security Gateways with Check Point R80 centralized management after a successful proof of concept, initially protecting 68 substations and planning 200 more. The solution delivers up-to-the-minute visibility and “digital twin” traffic analysis, enables centralized enforcement across hundreds of devices with a click, and lets the SOC detect and respond to threats in seconds—significantly improving control and reducing risk to mission-critical operations.
