City of Kamloops Chooses Prevention-First Protection for Email and Business Continuity

The City of Kamloops, a municipal government in British Columbia with about 760 employees, was facing daily phishing and business email compromise (BEC) attacks that targeted public profiles for the mayor and council. Relying solely on Microsoft 365 E5 Defender left dangerous gaps, so the IT team pursued a prevention‑first, low‑overhead solution to protect citizen data and maintain business continuity.

Working with partner VCURA, Kamloops deployed Check Point Harmony Email & Collaboration and reinforced its network with Check Point Quantum gateways and SandBlast. The new layer blocked more than 14,000 phishing emails that had evaded prior defenses, stopped hundreds of impersonation and malware messages, reduced help‑desk workload with a low false‑positive rate, and provided near “set‑and‑forget” protection that significantly strengthened the city’s resilience to ransomware and BEC.
