A Check Point Software Case Study
The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) is a research-led university with over 20,000 students whose datacenter was growing exponentially. To virtualize and consolidate IT resources while handling massive campus traffic, CUHK needed security that could keep pace with a dynamic virtual environment—inspecting inter‑VM traffic, automatically protecting new VMs, preserving policies during live migration, and providing centralized administration to reduce complexity and cost.
CUHK deployed Check Point Security Gateway Virtual Edition (VE) in hypervisor mode with integrated IPS and Check Point’s Software Blade Architecture, managed from a single console alongside physical gateways. The solution enforces policies during VM creation and vMotion, inspects east‑west traffic at the hypervisor, simplifies management, reduces datacenter footprint and costs, and delivered strong ROI through unified, scalable protection.
