Swisscom AG monitors 175,000 services with Checkmk

Swisscom AG, Switzerland's largest telecommunications company and a leading managed service provider for the financial sector, faced the challenge of finding a holistic IT monitoring solution. They needed to replace several existing tools with a single platform that could securely monitor critical banking systems like Centralized Online Real-time Exchange Banking Systems (CBS) for their clients. The solution had to offer secure multi-tenancy, comprehensive scalability, and strict on-premises operation to comply with regulations that prohibit data from leaving Switzerland.

Swisscom implemented Checkmk Ultimate with Multi-Tenancy to monitor over 1,800 hosts and 175,000 services across more than 20 instances. Checkmk provided the required secure separation of customer data and scalability. A key result was the development of a Forecast Engine with Checkmk, which provided highly precise capacity management as a service, allowing customers to accurately forecast future resource utilization. This improved both the quality and range of Swisscom's services, creating significant added value for their banking clients.
