A Checkmk Case Study
The customer, Landesvermessung und Geobasisinformation Brandenburg (LGB), is the state geodata provider for Brandenburg, Germany. Their challenge was ensuring near-perfect availability for critical public geodata portals used by emergency services and over 110 authorities. With complex, interdependent services where a single failure could cascade, classic infrastructure monitoring couldn't confirm real user functionality, risking downtime during mission-critical scenarios.
LGB implemented Checkmk, specifically using Checkmk Synthetic Monitoring. This provided unified monitoring of infrastructure and real user journeys, with named test steps that identified failed components immediately in alerts. The results included cutting annual downtime on their flagship map applications by over 90%, raising availability above 99.9%, and reducing fault isolation time from hours to minutes. Checkmk enabled LGB to exceed stringent EU availability mandates reliably.
