Marketing Agency Empowered Freelancers and Small Businesses With a Chatbot

International Trade Centre (ITC), the global agency linked to the WTO, UN, and EU, wanted to help diversify The Gambia’s economy by addressing two problems at once: small businesses lacked digital marketing support, and young people had few opportunities to break into freelance marketing. To support the program, ITC partnered with Chatfuel and GrowthBond to use a Messenger chatbot alongside Facebook ads and online training tools.

Chatfuel helped GrowthBond build a chatbot-driven flow for lead generation, applicant qualification, course reminders, and student support. The program attracted 370 applicants, 180 attended the first online sessions, 50 advanced, and 30 completed the course and started freelancing; 10 were already generating revenue, and one participant earned $515 during the program. The bot also helped connect trained freelancers with 180 interested companies, creating a practical pipeline for ongoing work.
