Bakery Uses AI Chatbot to Create New Revenue Stream During COVID-19 Shutdown

Essange, a Mumbai bakery, faced a sudden drop in business during the COVID-19 lockdowns as gatherings and parties were cancelled and customers shifted to baking at home. Chatfuel, working with the chatbot agency Talkative.AI, helped Essange pivot by using an AI chatbot and Facebook Messenger experience to support its DIY “bake at home” kits.

Chatfuel’s solution turned the bot into a virtual baking assistant that guided customers through recipes with step-by-step instructions, GIFs, reminders, and social sharing prompts, while also enabling retargeting and upsells for new kits. The results were strong: the new bot acquired 250% more users in a month than the earlier FAQ bot did in over a year, drove a 50x increase in active users and 13x more reengaged users, and significantly improved online-to-offline sales conversions.
