Building a Schema for Data Democratization

Reuters TV, the mobile video news app from Thomson Reuters, needed to democratize data access so marketing and editorial teams could run analyses without relying on analysts. Their existing BI tool required SQL for even simple charts, creating a backlog of ad-hoc requests and slowing decision-making; they sought a solution with quick integration, scheduled reporting, and a drag-and-drop query interface.

They implemented Chartio, rebuilt a scalable schema once, and used Chartio’s Interactive Mode and Data Pipeline so non-technical users can self-serve with drag-and-drop queries. Dashboard build time fell from hours to about 20 minutes, analysts refocused on data science and content-recommendation work, and marketing now uses real-time MAU pacing dashboards to optimize spend and content decisions.
