Alameda County Gets Smart About Growing Its EV Fleet

Alameda County, a municipal fleet operator and sustainability leader, needed a way to scale its growing EV fleet without costly electrical upgrades or unpredictable utility demand charges. Working with ChargePoint, the county adopted a networked EV charging solution to better track usage, manage dozens of charging spots centrally, and support its climate action goals.

ChargePoint implemented smart, networked charging with power management features like circuit sharing, load shedding, and prioritized DC fast charging. The result was the expansion of Alameda County’s EV fleet from 0 to 80 vehicles in four years, more than 100 charging ports supporting nearly 100 fleet EVs, and potential savings of over $10,000 per year, while avoiding 196,011 kg of greenhouse gas emissions.
