World Food Programme streamlines protection training with Chaos Theory Games

The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) needed to create a compelling training experience to educate its global staff and partners on applying complex humanitarian protection and accountability concepts in their fieldwork. To meet this challenge, WFP engaged the vendor Chaos Theory Games to develop a serious game.

Chaos Theory Games developed "Sharmila," a fantasy-based training game that simulates high-risk protection scenarios in a safe, fictitious world. The solution utilized an engaging narrative and emotional connections to motivate voluntary play and improve learning. Through user experience testing championed by Chaos Theory, the game's design was refined to increase its efficacy, successfully creating an interactive tool for staff training.
