BNSF Railway, one of North America’s largest rail networks with 33,500 route miles, more than 44,500 employees, and freight ranging from coal and grain to intermodal and autos, needed to keep fueling facilities running fast and reliably as trains increase in length and revenue. The challenge was to efficiently manage maintenance across dispersed refueling sites so multiple locomotives could be refueled and reprovisioned quickly while minimizing downtime.

BNSF deployed CHAMPS CMMS at key fueling stations (Commerce, CA and Cicero, IL) and across 54 locations supporting 300+ users; the system tracks over 16,500 assets, ~11,000 preventive maintenance tasks and 800 job plans. CHAMPS provides centralized job plans, PMs, work orders, 24/7 equipment and scheduling data access and custom reporting—streamlining maintenance operations, improving uptime for rapid refueling, and supporting the railroad’s record-setting train performance and revenue goals.
