A CHAMPS Software, Inc. Case Study
CHAMPS Software has worked with the U.S. Department of Energy since 2003 on the Hanford Site cleanup, partnering with Bechtel National to design, build and commission a 65-acre radioactive waste treatment plant. The effort tackles the retrieval and stabilization of 177 underground waste tanks at the nation’s largest former defense production site, one of DOE’s most technically challenging environmental cleanups.
CHAMPS’ Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) supports the Office of River Protection and Bechtel by managing waste retrieval and tank stabilization activities, and by handling engineering, construction, and daily maintenance and operations of the vitrification plant’s equipment, materials and processes. By enabling coordinated asset and maintenance management, CHAMPS has helped advance the Vit Plant’s large-scale vitrification process to safely immobilize high‑level waste in stable glass canisters.
