Petland, a specialty pet retailer with about 13 corporate and 140 franchised stores, faced an outgrown single-store POS that left merchandising teams running reports store-by-store and made serialized inventory tracking (for individual pets) difficult. With no CIO and a lean executive staff, VP of Finance Lisa Johnson unexpectedly championed the project to find a multistore solution that combined strong transaction, inventory and accounting capabilities.

Petland selected Multidev’s ChainDrive and, working with Compass Integration and an in-store implementation trainer, rolled the platform out across corporate stores. The new system delivered central inventory visibility, faster reporting, consolidated purchase orders for better supplier leverage, easier inventory transfers and a more consistent product mix—freeing merchandisers to focus on strategy. Petland is now methodically preparing to offer the solution to franchisees.
