Big Lots, a major discount retailer with more than 1,400 stores, turned to Chainalytics for help with a complex truckload and intermodal transportation procurement event. The company needed to improve cost savings, service, and network balance while managing a broad carrier base across its inbound and outbound network.

Chainalytics used its procurement methodology, bid optimization tools, and freight market intelligence to clean and analyze data, run multi-round bidding, and optimize carrier awards around business constraints. The result was a 44% reduction in Big Lots’ carrier base and more freight shifted to asset-based carriers, delivering just over 7% savings on all inbound and outbound truckloads while improving operational balance and reducing empty miles and driver hours.
