Case Study: Lightweight Containers achieves a scalable, transparent North American supply chain with C.H. Robinson

A C.H. Robinson Case Study

Preview of the Lightweight Containers Case Study

A supply chain solution that spans continents to support a growing new product line

Lightweight Containers, maker of KeyKeg® and UniKeg® recyclable beverage containers, was struggling with a fragmented North American supply chain and rising logistics demands as its business grew. Multiple providers left the Netherlands-based team repeatedly checking orders and inventory, and time-zone differences complicated end-of-day processing. To solve this, Lightweight Containers partnered with C.H. Robinson (Chemicals & Plastics Solutions) and began using Navisphere® for centralized order entry and visibility.

C.H. Robinson provided a full-service solution—assigning a dedicated account representative, centralizing data in Navisphere®, running warehouse-location models, optimizing modes, and offering an external tracking link for customers. As a result, Lightweight Containers consolidated North American operations with warehouses in Vancouver, WA; Tracy, CA; Joliet, IL; and Montreal, CAN, eliminated double-checking of orders, achieved faster turnaround times and reduced environmental impact, and gained a scalable, visible supply chain to support the UniKeg launch. C.H. Robinson’s approach, combined with Lightweight Containers’ lightweight kegs (which can reduce transportation costs by more than 60%), delivered clear time, cost, and service improvements.
