Using Certona's Geotargeting Recommendations, Soft Surroundings Sold Excess Inventory 33% Faster

Soft Surroundings, a domestic multi-channel retailer of women’s apparel, bedding, home decor, and beauty products, needed a faster way to liquidate excess end-of-season inventory without sacrificing the personalized shopping experience. Working with Certona, the company looked to replace manual recommendations with an automated personalization platform that could follow business rules and support its outlet site.

Certona implemented geotargeted product recommendations and later combined geotargeting with a must-sell merchandise list to bias recommendations by region and inventory needs. The results were strong: geotargeting-based recommendations converted 4% better and drove 5% higher dollars per recommendation than Certona recommendations alone, excess inventory sold 33% faster, and a second test showed inventory depletion improved by 12.4% versus the geo-bias control.
