Secure Energy Services, a North American energy services leader operating across Western Canada and North Dakota, faced a time-consuming finance challenge: complex GST rules that vary by province and country forced the team to manually review more than 600 monthly expense reports using spreadsheets and paper, creating audit blind spots and limited visibility. Corporate card users also had constrained functionality, so Secure Energy engaged Certify in 2015 to explore an automated solution.
Certify delivered an automated expense-management platform with a custom tax table integrated into Secure Energy’s ERP, enabling receipt capture, automatic tax calculations and GL mapping so accountants only need to confirm categories. The rollout now supports about 1,000 users and ~625 automated reports per month, saved the equivalent of six months of an FTE salary, and significantly improved tax accuracy, visibility and auditing while reducing manual effort.
