A Cerner Case Study
Via Christi Health, the largest health system in Kansas, faced a severe revenue-cycle backlog after going live with Cerner’s acute, ambulatory and revenue solutions in June 2014. Implementation challenges and staffing shortages left the organization “drowning” in accounts receivable and unable to reach a catch-up phase.
Via Christi engaged Cerner RevWorks’ Extended Business Office to augment staffing and tackle slices of the backlog (Medicare, Medicaid, commercial payers >60 days and higher-dollar claims). Working together, the teams reduced A/R by $83 million (12 days) and discharged-not-final-billed by $50 million (8 days), using up to 15 EBO billing associates; they also leveraged EBO data to fix posting issues and now plan to continue using the service for coverage and optimization.
