A Cerner Case Study
Universal Health Services (UHS), a Pennsylvania-based health system, aimed to increase uptake of Medicare preventive services—particularly Annual Wellness Visits (AWVs)—and improve how providers identified and tracked eligible patients in its St. Mary’s market, where many older patients had low health literacy and gaps in preventive care.
UHS implemented Cerner’s Preventive Care Advisor integrated with PowerChart Ambulatory to auto-populate Medicare-eligible screenings, query CMS claims for real-time status, and generate outreach lists so teams could order services on the spot. From January 2015 to April 2016 AWVs increased 120% and preventive services revenue grew 90%; the solution improved quality and patient experience, was easy to deploy technically, and was expanded to other markets and specialties after successful adoption.
