A Cerner Case Study
Johns Hopkins All Children's Hospital in St. Petersburg faced a staffing challenge: nursing and finance lacked a shared, objective way to quantify patient-driven nurse staffing needs, relying on manual processes and separate acuity tools that made it hard to justify workforce changes and ensure equitable assignments.
After implementing Cerner’s Clairvia workforce solution, predictive, acuity-based data aligned nursing and finance around the same evidence, enabling senior leadership to approve 85 new positions (51 nurses and 34 patient care technicians). The result was clearer, near-real-time visibility into supply and demand, improved workload equity and staff satisfaction, and a shift from manual debates to data-driven staffing decisions that better match patient needs.
