Revamped process helped reduce duplicate registration by more than 95 percent

Columbia Memorial Hospital’s Primary Care Clinic needed to improve patient satisfaction and staff efficiency by fixing a registration process that created multiple encounters for the same visit, causing duplicate bills and misplaced orders. Working with Cerner’s CommunityWorks and Application Management Services, the clinic looked to simplify patient registration and reduce encounter redundancy.

Cerner helped implement a new workflow using Charge Services and Patient Accounting so each day’s care could be tied to a single encounter, claim, and statement. The change reduced duplicate registrations by 96.44 percent, cutting monthly repeats from 441.33 to 15.73 on average and giving staff more time to focus on patient follow-up, lab results, and appointment support.
