Case Study: MU Health Care improves patient safety and screening rates with Cerner

A Cerner Case Study

MU Health Care cuts RBC transfusions by 13.34% with Cerner

MU Health Care, a healthcare provider, partnered with Cerner to tackle challenges in improving patient safety and clinical quality metrics. Their specific goals were to reduce unnecessary blood transfusions and to improve the usability of their electronic health record for patient screenings.

Cerner implemented a clinical decision support alert for red blood cell transfusions and led a user interface redesign for intake assessments. This solution resulted in a 13.34% reduction in overall transfusion rates and significant improvements in screening rates: a 52% increase for depression, 53% for fall risk, and 48% for alcohol and drug misuse. These efforts, supported by Cerner, earned MU Health Care a HIMSS Davies Award for excellence.
