A Cerner Case Study
Methodist Health System, an Omaha-based hospital network, faced lengthy, error-prone software upgrades that forced its 137-person IT staff to pause day-to-day projects and perform extensive testing without full workflow expertise. Recent conversions required significant internal effort and created bottlenecks for other strategic initiatives.
By leveraging Cerner’s Upgrade Center and 20 Prevent & Advance Services, Methodist shifted much of the solution testing and coding to trained Cerner analysts and implemented targeted improvements (for example, Auto-Close Pregnancy Ops Jobs in PowerChart Maternity). The June 2015 conversion finished in 68 days versus the prior 84-day average, and defects per solution dropped 75% over nine months, enabling faster, higher-quality upgrades and allowing IT to refocus on strategic work.
