A Cerner Case Study
King Faisal Specialist Hospital & Research Centre (KFSH&RC) sought to improve patient safety, standardize chronic disease management and make better use of its electronic medical record (EMR). The hospital faced inefficient, manual workflows—such as medication refills and paper-based documentation—and needed Clinical Decision Support to reduce safety risks and improve care consistency.
The Family Medicine and Health IT teams analyzed workflows, built new online documentation and health‑maintenance modules, implemented Clinical Decision Support and voice recognition, and automated order processes. Results included automated, paperless documents, SAR 10k/year in workflow savings, faster clinic throughput and higher staff satisfaction, improved documentation compliance (codified diagnoses rose from 547 in 2014 to 28,791 in 2015), up to five clicks saved per order, and reduced patient safety issues with standardized chronic‑disease care and data-ready reporting for research.
