A Cerner Case Study
Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) and Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC) implemented a country‑wide electronic health record to serve more than 90% of Qatar’s 2.3 million people across eight hospitals, 23 health centres and numerous clinics. The challenge was to deploy a single, integrated Clinical Information System (CIS) across tens of facilities and thousands of clinicians to improve patient safety, streamline workflows and eliminate clinical errors.
They rolled out Cerner’s CIS—integrating over 2,500 lab and bedside devices and enabling shared lab, radiology and exam results—alongside targeted training and readiness drills. Embedded tools such as the St. John Sepsis Agent reduced progression from SIRS to sepsis from ~40% to 17% within 11 months, barcode medication scanning used by 1,000+ nurses cut administration errors, and the consolidated record helped HMC/PHCC boost efficiency, care quality and earn international recognition.
