A Cerner Case Study
Dignity Health rethought how it trained ambulatory providers on Cerner’s PowerChart Ambulatory after providers reported difficulties following an earlier rollout. Working with Cerner’s on-site executive team and physician leadership, the organization set out to redesign training and implementation to reduce disruption and improve the provider experience.
They adopted a multi‑wave, clinically focused training model with in‑office support, mock go‑lives, combined system sessions and 52 specialty workflows plus provider optimization. Training time fell from more than 40 hours to 10 hours (a 75% reduction), most providers returned to baseline productivity within about 2–4 weeks, and total EHR time per patient dropped roughly 10% in family medicine, OB/GYN and primary care—along with higher user satisfaction and ongoing analytics-driven optimization.
