CoxHealth, a Cerner ITWorks client in Springfield, Missouri, faced the challenge of preparing its hospitals and outpatient facilities for the transition from ICD-9 to ICD-10 coding. The health system used Cerner clinical solutions and Cerner Soarian Financials to test claim processing and uncover potential failure points before the mandated rollout.

Cerner supported CoxHealth through end-to-end ICD-10 testing and workflow adjustments that improved results from 91% to a perfect acknowledgement score, with CMS receiving all 63 claims in the second round. The testing also reduced effort from 351 hours to 167 hours, and CoxHealth reported greater confidence that its systems were ready for ICD-10.
