A Cerner Case Study
Cerner partnered with the United Arab Emirates Ministry of Health and Prevention (MOHAP) to address a global public‑health priority after the World Health Organization called for improved antimicrobial‑resistance (AMR) surveillance. MOHAP had a national plan to contribute data to the WHO, but manual lab workflows limited the volume and timeliness of AMR testing.
Cerner’s ITWorks team added new interfaces to PathNet at Al Qassimi Hospital to automate antibiotic susceptibility testing and data capture. The automation cut test time from three–four minutes to seconds, doubled monthly AMR results (from ~2,079 to >4,700) and saved substantial technician time, enabling MOHAP to scale surveillance and share detailed data nationally to support WHO efforts.
