A Cerner Case Study
Augusta University Health faced a documentation burden from requiring up to three separate discharge notes per patient, which slowed note authentication, increased chart delinquencies, and drove high transcription costs and clinician time spent on paperwork.
Working with Cerner’s Continuous Advancement and ITWorks teams, AU Health consolidated discharge documentation into one optimized Dynamic Documentation note with a cleaner two-column layout. The change cut average documentation time from about 13 to a little over 9 minutes per patient (saving 651 provider hours over three months), reduced projected annual transcription costs from roughly $233,800 to $57,450 (saving >$176,000/year), shortened authentication lag by 71% (385 to 108 hours), and lowered chart delinquencies ( >30 days down 54%, <30 days down 76%), while improving note clarity and faster claim submission.
