Reducing API Sprawl with Inventory Tracking and Risk Assessment

Global Telecom Service Provider struggled with severe API sprawl and a lack of real‑time visibility across thousands of internal and external APIs after years of distributed development and acquisitions. To get a scalable, continuous inventory and risk assessment, they selected Cequence Security’s API Sentinel (and later added Cequence Bot Defense) to provide runtime discovery and centralized API visibility.

Cequence Security deployed API Sentinel with a Kubernetes‑based agent tied into Apigee (with planned service‑mesh integration) to deliver up‑to‑the‑minute inventory, traffic analysis, and custom risk categorization. The solution revealed shadow APIs, flagged APIs accepting unauthorized HTTP POSTs (quickly remediated), enabled a centralized dashboard across data centers and clouds, and—together with Cequence Bot Defense—blocked malicious bot activity, giving the customer measurable, real‑time visibility and faster remediation across thousands of APIs.
