A Ceph Case Study
The University of Kentucky faced a challenge meeting the growing demand for high-performance computing (HPC) resources from a new generation of researchers, whose single-node jobs did not require costly specialized HPC hardware. They needed a virtualized environment that could support both cloud and HPC tasks without sacrificing performance and turned to SoftIron for a solution involving their HyperDrive Ceph storage appliance.
SoftIron implemented a production-ready HyperDrive Ceph cluster to eliminate a performance bottleneck caused by virtualized data storage. The solution provided the University of Kentucky with the high performance and flexibility needed for their virtualized OpenHPC clusters. This resulted in less wait time and greater productivity for researchers, successfully adapting their infrastructure to the changing nature of research computing.
