Vivaqua, a major water and sewage treatment provider serving more than two million customers, needed to maintain constant pressure across the company’s 5,000+ kilometre pipeline network to protect service reliability, making Demand Side Response seem like an unlikely fit. Centrica Business Solutions provided an automated DSR approach using its FlexPond™ platform, with Flextract™ helping ensure industrial boundary constraints were maintained.

Centrica Business Solutions implemented a fully automated Demand Side Response solution that reduced power demand from upstream pumping stations and related equipment without affecting water throughput or pipeline pressure. The system delivered up to 5 MW of load reduction in less than three minutes, cut 4,000 tonnes of carbon emissions annually, and kept Vivaqua’s operators in full control of the process.
