Case Study: Toyota powers its plant with solar energy from Centrica Business Solutions

Using the sun to power the plant

Toyota wanted a greener way to power its Burnaston plant and partnered with Centrica Business Solutions to create a turnkey solar PV project for what would become the UK’s largest factory-connected installation. The goal was to support Toyota’s first European Model Sustainable Plant while reducing reliance on grid electricity and lowering carbon emissions.

Centrica Business Solutions delivered the full solar PV solution, including site development, planning support, and installation of nearly 17,000 PV modules, 240 inverters, and 140km of cabling. Completed in less than four months, the system now supplies 5% of Toyota’s site energy consumption, helping cut electricity costs and reduce the plant’s carbon footprint.
