Tallaght University Hospital cuts grid electricity 70% with Centrica Business Solutions

Tallaght University Hospital, a major teaching hospital in Dublin, faced the challenge of upgrading its aging infrastructure to improve energy efficiency and reduce its environmental impact. The hospital partnered with Centrica Business Solutions through an energy performance contract to implement a multi-technology solution, including a Combined Heat and Power (CHP) system and LED lighting upgrades.

Centrica Business Solutions implemented a comprehensive upgrade, which included installing a 1.5MWe CHP unit, replacing over 5,000 lights with high-efficiency LEDs, and upgrading heating and air-handling systems. The solution delivered a 70% drop in grid-supplied electricity, a 26% reduction in carbon emissions, and guaranteed annual energy savings of nearly €1 million for the hospital, allowing funds to be reinvested into critical services.
